Wawa Sponsors 25th Annual Mascot Games to Benefit New Hope for Kids

The 25th Annual Mascot Games, sponsored by Wawa, comes to the Amway Center in Orlando Florida, on June 22nd and 23rd, 2018. All proceeds for this event benefit New Hope for Kids, which is a non-profit organization that brings hope and healing to those children suffering from the loss of a loved one, or going through a life threatening illness.

This event features roughly around 30 different mascots from sports teams across the nation, competing in a variety of games including gladiator themed, to see who is the true champion of the mascot world. Bring your kids and family so you can see the happiest versions of themselves, as this is one of the most fun events on the New Hope for Kids’ calendar. If you want to give back to the community in other ways, there are volunteering opportunities too. For more information on how to purchase tickets or volunteering opportunities, visit the New Hope for Kids website.

How to look after a child who is ill

Having a sick child is often a very stressful and upsetting experience. Your child may be having a very hard time feeling comfortable and dealing with pain, while you may be wondering if something is way too wrong. Don’t worry, here are five ways you can take care of your child:

Don’t be over-protective:

Parents often tend to be overprotective which may make their child feel that something is wrong. Just be as normal as possible

Share age appropriate information and be honest:

Be sure to share age appropriate information and be honest with your child so you don’t scare them. But, don’t hide the facts.

Talk to them as often as possible:

Talk to your child about what they are feeling as soon as possible. It will make them feel better.

Help them let other friends know:

Ill children can feel isolated at school. Help them let their friends know what they are feeling.

Talk to your other kids as well:

If you have other kids, talk to them as well so they don’t feel left out. Let them help their siblings get better by being a part of the team.

All in all, having a sick child can be very stressful. New Hope for Kids is here to help children who are ill, and make your life easier. If you know of any kids who are ill or their parents who are in need of help, visit New Hope for Kids.

Bridget Park: How to Comfort a Grieving Teen

How to Comfort a Grieving Teen, is presented by author Bridget Park, at the University of Nevada, on February 1, 2014. Bridget Park lost her brother at a young age as a result of suicide. She explains what went wrong right after the death of her beloved brother, at which time she was almost a teenager.

What she tries to convey in this talk is the way people reacted to her emotions after her brother’s demise, which made her feel even worse, instead of feeling better. She says “Do you know, most of what people say to someone who is grieving isn’t comforting at all?”  According to her, society does not know the proper way to look after or comfort a teenager, and talks about what might actually have made her feel better if people spoke to her differently, or acted differently around her. “Ask me what I was doing that weekend and just treat me like a normal person, and tell me you are there for me, that would make me feel better.”

If you really want to make a difference and help out such grieving children, there are a lot of websites and articles on the internet that show you ways in which we should take care of children, such as step by step instructions of helping a grieving teen.

A child should not be grieving alone, and due to this big problem today, New Hope for Kids helps out such children in need and those that are ill. To learn more about New Hope for Kids and the grief support services that they have, visit New Hope For Kids.
