Being a part of this program was one of the best decisions I have made at Rollins thus far. By participating in our group cultural activities, staying at a home-stay, exploring our city Madrid, and traveling through Spain, I was able to really immerse into the spanish culture. From visiting museums in Madrid to traveling to Sevilla or Barcelona, I loved all the activities and am glad to have accomplished so many of them. It is hard to pick only one favorite activity, but one that really surprised me was going to the Corrida De Toros. It was an event that I did not expect to like as it seems brutal and unpleasant to watch. However, after hearing from multiple people that it is an unmissable activity, I forced myself to go, as it would be a shame to leave Spain without having attended a corrida. The event has so much history behind it, rules, traditions, etc that I was overwhelmed by its atmosphere and was completely taken by surprise when I found myself really enjoying it. Although it sounds touristic, it is highly populated with really well dressed locals who have an admiration for the event that is hard to explain. I am genuinely glad that I attended this event and was able to feel at least the slightest appreciation for the Corrida De Toros, this caused truly by its atmosphere and history.
