I started off my February with an unexpected trip to London for the weekend. I met with some friends Thursday night and they told me they were leaving for London that night, but that I should come the next day with the people who were coming Friday. So that’s exactly what I did. I booked my ticket and a hostel like 5 hours before we actually left. So I went a t-shirt signing party for all the international kids, and after that at 3AM we got on the bus for a six hour ride to London. The bus was packed so it was difficult to sleep, but somehow I managed a few hours. Then when we go into London it was about 9AM and we went straight into exploring the city. We did a lot of touristy things like visiting Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, and a few other places. There are still a few places I’d like to see like the South Bank, and the natural history Museum. The highlight of the whole weekend was going to see a play. There were so many other plays I would have liked to see but they were too expensive so we settled for “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time” which was actually a lot better than expected. I hope the next time I go visit London I get to see another show.
Then the weekend after that I went on a day trip to Edinburgh, Scotland. It was a nice little trip, I got to do a lot of the touristy things again. We got free tickets to go into the Castle which was a lot of fun, and were able to get really good shots of the city because we were so high up. There was also a nice little Museum, but the best part of the whole trip was getting to see the Elephant House the
cafe where Harry Potter was written. It wasn’t a super exciting trip, but was still a nice town to get to see. I doubt I’ll go back, but if I do I’d like to see Arthur’s seat, which is a dormant volcano, and the highest point in the city.
Then this past weekend, I went to Preston which is a town that’s about a 40 minute bus ride away from Lancaster. The main reason I went was because my friends wanted to go and shop. It was a nice little town, did not get a chance to see much besides the Museum. It started off as a nice trip, did a little shopping and got to see the Museum, but the trip ended terribly. My friend ended up spraining her ankle because the roads are uneven, and then our Bus got delayed over two hours, and we all had things on campus to do, so we ended up having to pay more money for a train ticket that they didn’t even check. So we paid for two tickets to leave Preston, but neither tickets ended up being used.
