When March came around, it came time for midterm assignments. I’ve never had more fun with my midterms. In Contemporary British Film, we were told we could write about anything to do with the films we had already seen in class as long as it was interesting and we could say 1000 words about it. In Understanding Modern Britain, we had to write about one of the Field Studies we did so I talked about the gentrification of the East End of London. In Modern Acting, I got to do a monologue as Jesus. In Citizenship and Gender in Modern Europe, I did a paper about Radclyffe Hall and the way that the feminist movement of World War I appropriated her gender fluidity.
After those extremely stressful midterms 😉 my friend Mario and I headed to Italy! We spent four days in Rome staying with one of my friends south of the city. We bought metro passes and walked around for hours on end just taking in all the amazing archaic sights. We stopped in front of each of the iconic landmarks of Rome, too many to even count. We had gelato in the Piazza de Spagna and pizza in front of the Pantheon.
After those four days in Rome we went to Florence for two days. For those of you who are going to Italy, SPEND A LOT OF TIME IN FLORENCE! It’s an absolutely breathtaking city. Very easy to get around, very small, very cute, very beautiful, and very old. There are so many amazing things to see there, from the huge gates to the city, to the amazing statue David by Michelangelo, to the Duomo, to the mountain view of the city. Spend as much time as you can there exploring and walking around.
