Wow! After reading the prologue I was amazed at how Hitler celebrated his birthday! I still cannot get over the idea of how Hitler got so many people to follow him! Along with that, it is weird to think about the dedication in order to see Hitler for just a second or two on his birthday. This lead me to think about my own life and if there was anyone I would be willing to camp out or stay up all night for in order to see for a short period of time. After the festivities ended I was excited to finally dive into the book.
It was great to finally begin reading the chapters and start learning something that really interested me. From Chapter 1, the thing that really stood out to me was the idea Hitler put into the peoples minds of peace and the lack of response people had from Hitler when he said Poland would be invaded. The idea of invading a country so soon after WWI ended would freak me out! I do not think I would ever just trust a leader completely like the people of Berlin had with Hitler.
This leads into the start of the blackouts in Berlin. This a concept that really baffled me because of how far we have come with technology in what seems like a short period of time. Now, in a war, there is no way people could just turn off the lights to sort of hide their city from the enemy. Most importantly my whole view of the blackout was very scared! I would never want to go through something like that. I could not believe the crime that happened during the blackout! It scares me that the country could not be united as one and the blackout just allowed more violence to happen.
