As the fourth month comes to an end, it is really starting to hit me that my time here is getting shorter and shorter. I have made the most amazing friends that have made my experience even more memorable. I joined the Erasmus group while being here, which is the program in which European students can be apart of to study in other countries freely. Being in this group I have been able to go on organized trips with other students from around the world. My latest trip with Erasmus was to País Vasco, a region that is incredibly overlooked if you asked me. This region, which borders France, is a mixture between a mountainous region and island life. They also speak Basque, which for most Spaniards is almost impossible to understand, so for myself, I was completely lost. Our first mini stop was to Gaztelugatxe, which looked like the Wall of China up to a church overlooking the ocean. There were more stairs then I could count about a mile long and straight up, but at the top the view was definitely worth it.
Our next stop was to the city of Bilbao, which was the most modern city I have ever visited. The buildings, Guggenheim Museum, and even the metro was all brand new and high tech. It used to be a city only consisting of factories and was transformed into a beautiful port city. After Bilbao we went to the coastal town of San Sebastian where we took a mini tram up to the top of a mountain to get our first view feeling like we were on top of the ocean and could see the whole town. They were famous for pinchos here, spelt “pintxos” in Basque, so each bar was topped with the most delicious pinchos for your choosing. The views and the food were amazing, another amazing place to visit in Spain!
