Gestapo were the Secret State Police that served a political function of finding those that opposed the Nazi regime. Racism and prejudice characterized Nazi theory; inferior groups were had a predisposition to crime. The Gestapo seemed to have a lot of power, having the ability to work outside of the law whenever necessary. The Gestapo interrogated whomever they desired and for an undetermined amount of time. What surprised me the most was that many informants of the Gestapo were civilians and police officers. Although the Gestapo seemed to have unlimited power, they did not have the manpower to control the entire German population. Prior to the reading I had not heard about the V-Men, or the informants for the Gestapo.
