The food here in Spain has been nothing similar to what I thought it would be. Naively, I thought I would be eating endless delicious tacos and that of which is along the menu of Chipotle. While it is possible to find that type of menu, it is not the authentic Spanish food I looked forward to trying. Food in Spain is different in many aspects; the time of the day each meal occurs, the type of food, portion size and even the pace of meal. Contrary to the States, breakfast here is the smallest meal of the day, lunch is the biggest, and dinner is smaller than. I took the picture above while a group of other students and I traveled to spend the weekend in Valencia, a short 2-hour high-speed train ride. We ventured around Valencia and found a park where soccer games were going on so we stayed to take-in the culture. Near us, there was an elderly woman and, what I would learn to be, her daughter selling food. Many of the soccer players came over to them after they finished their game; I thought it must be some good authentic food because of this. The bowl of food has been the best food I’ve had during my time so far in Spain.
