This picture was taken on top of the fortress in the neighborhood of Carmen in Valencia. My friends and I took the train to Valencia for the weekend and spent all of Sunday walking around the city and site seeing numerous monuments, buildings and museums. This picture in particular was by far my favorite and the most significant because I hopped a fence or two to reach the best view possible and the Catalonia flag is also present in the photo. We believed this flag resembled not only the co-official language of Valencia, Catalan, but also the ownership of this specific fortress to the Kingdom of Catalonia. The view from the top of the fortress was fascinating. On one side is the center of Valencia, the neighborhood of Carmen, and on the other is a residential area with a huge park. The only way to enter Carmen is to cross the narrow bridge and pass through the fortress. There were multiple levels of the fortress that included little windows for archers trying to attack or scout the enemy. Surrounding the fortress was a moat that does not have water currently, but back in the day it was used to further protect the fortress walls. Lastly, I am doing The Heisman in the photo because I am an avid college football fan and I wanted to bring a little taste of the American culture to Valencia. I would definitely recommend Valencia to anyone who is looking for a combination of a less populated city, elaborate architecture and easy access to beautiful beaches.
Hasta la próxima,
