Time is flying by and at this point, I only have four more weeks left of school. Like every semester, the end is where everything starts to pick up and you have a lot of work so I’ve been really busy with school and making the best out of the remaining time I have here. At this point, I’m getting used to my lifestyle here but I’m ready to go home for the most part. I guess you could say I’m getting tired of living out of my suitcase. I miss all my clothes, shoes and jewelry. I miss my pictures, decorations, bed and books. I miss my friends and family. I miss Rollins and the familiarity of language, lifestyle, people, food and places. Studying abroad is an incredible experience and I wouldn’t change anything but it is definitely not easy living in a temporary situation for 5 months. It’s pretty much like I’ve been on vacation for too long and I’m ready to get back to normal life.
I’m currently in the process of trying to gather as much information about schools here for a masters program before I go back to the States and I’m not having much luck. I think this is a difficult process because the school system works much differently here. Students can’t study music here like we can in the US. If a student chooses to study an instrument and become a performer, composer or conductor, they would need to study at a special school specifically for music. It is not possible to study an instrument at a university in Germany so the fact that I am able to do so while also studying other subjects is a foreign concept here. So, it’s a bit of a challenge trying to figure everything out and understand how everything works here, while also trying to learn and understand the music world but I’m getting somewhere and I have to at least give myself credit for that!
All of this talk and thought about life after Rollins is so stressful and I can’t believe I’m going to be starting my senior in August. I literally feel like I was a freshman last week, I remember it all so vividly. It’s so strange staying abroad up until right before we start school, I won’t get much of a break at all but I definitely choose this experience over anything else. So, here’s to the last five weeks of school and the last couple months left in Europe! I will do the very best I can to make my time left here worth it!
