Hello there! I am Shree, Shree Raj Shrestha. My first name is Shree Raj, but people call me Shree.
As you might have guessed from my name, that I am not from the United States. I am from Nepal – a beautiful country rich in beautiful places and wonderful people. However, all this beauty comes at a price – the price of having a passport that does not do much when it comes to traveling.
There are about a handful of countries that has a “free visa” policy with Nepal – that is freedom for Nepali citizens to travel without a visa (a sticker on the passport that gives you permission to enter a country). Germany was not one of them.
As a result I had to travel to Miami to apply for my student visa at the German consulate. As an international student without a car, getting there and finding a place to stay can be difficult and result you taking a Megabus and then staying overnight at a hostel, which was fun, especially the bus ride since I got the front row seat on the second level of a double decker. Here is a photo I took on my way there:
Not bad right. After all, it was all worth it. If you do not believe me, take a look at a picture that I took the morning of my visa appointment (I arrived at a park about 3 hours before and got a chance to enjoy the Miami sunrise).
So the point to be taken here is that, yes, there are passports better than a Nepali one that allows you to travel without any hassle, American passports being one; nevertheless, the absence of privileges such as these has allowed me to experience realities such as the ones above. And yes I got a visa so this guy is going to Germany on August.
Deutschland! Komme Ich!
