Today marks day 1 of travels with two days to go before orientation begins. After traveling about 11 hours to arrive in Honolulu, we have made it to our hostel. Having a few days to get adjusted to the time change and settle in, it did not really feel like leaving when I left. Also considering we have orientation in Hawaii for ten days before the trip to Samoa truly starts, it did not seem like the trip was really starting. With that being said, I am still anxious to meet our group and get to know more about what we will be doing for the next four months.
Going in to this, I knew I wanted to study abroad while I was in college. That was a definite but where I wanted to go was completely undecided. When I heard about Samoa, I was excited because it is a program that not a lot of people go on. More over, I wanted to go somewhere where I couldn’t just go to visit and tour on my own. Samoa is not somewhere I would see myself going ever again without SIT and that is what stuck out the most in my mind.
Thinking ahead, I am most excited about finding new adventures, seeing what the locals do and getting outside my comfort zone. I am most anxious (in a good way) about the home stays. Looking forward for what is to come! See you in Samoa.
