What an exciting, thrilling, and bumpy summer it has been. My life has gone up and down, side to side, and even curves I couldn’t see coming were thrown. But it was all with a greater purpose in the end. All leading up to this moment — departure time. In just a couple of months I went from being a young man with only school to worry about, to an expecting father with a lot more responsibilities at hand. Nonetheless, I have been blessed with an amazing partner, some remarkable parents, and a great circle of friends. And this combined has paved the road to this exciting adventure ahead.
Shanghai seems like an amazing city, full of new cultural experiences awaiting to be fulfilled. I have only studied the language for one semester thus far; and I have taken much interest on the ways in which the Chinese live their lives. Youtube, Alliance, and my friends that have a background in Chinese life have been great sources of what to expect and look out for while abroad. I must say that the one concern I have that sticks out is how I will adapt to the cuisine. By no means am I afraid to try anything, but while I was in Japan I had a few experiences with their gastronomical delicacies which were hard to get used to.
Packing has been the most intricate part of planning this trip. I really do not enjoy having limitations as to what I can potentially bring. However it did make for a great shopping spree which is always nice.
I have less than 24 hours before I embark the plane ( which I have a huge fear of), and it is a very bitter-sweet feeling having to leave everything I love behind. I really hope this experience can shape the way I see and do things for the better.
Overall I am extremely excited to start this new venture! I will try to keep an updated blog throughout my trip and experiences.
