We got to our flat, jet lagged and exhausted only to realize we had to carry two 50 pounds suitcases and one carry on each up five flights of stairs. It was a struggle, but we made it, and began to unpack and settle into our new home. My best friend and me live in a double room in flat 5 along with three other girls from different universities. The space was smaller than I expected, and there is only one bathroom, however, we have been able to make it work and fit all of our stuff. Surprisingly, the bathroom-sharing situation hasn’t been bad either.
I can’t believe I’ve only been here less than two weeks. It feels like I arrived months ago, and that I arrived hours ago all at the same time. One of my main concerns was public transport and the fact that I am very disoriented but with my Oyster Card and the City Mapper app on my phone I have been able to get around London seamlessly.
London is such a busy and beautiful city, with so much to do and see. We have gone everywhere from Piccadilly Circus to Buckingham Palace to Tower Bridge, the Big Ben, Parliament, Oxford Street, Covent Garden, High Street Kensington, Hyde Park and more. The more I get to know and explore the city, the more I fall in love with it.
I have officially concluded my first week of classes and internship. CAPA classes are quite different to Rollins classes since they only meet once a week, but for 3.5 hours. It’s hard to stay focused for so long, but the teachers make classes engaging and interesting. This week I went one full day (8 hours) to my internship at The Independent, a British daily newspaper. I was very nervous at first, but everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. I am still getting used to it and not quite sure what kinds of tasks I will have, but I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it in a few days.
So far, London is perfect and there is no place I would rather be!
