As I enter mid-September here abroad in Rome, every expectation I had coming into this experience has already been long surpassed and then some. Admittedly I have found myself homesick to some extent at times, but I cannot express into words how much I have appreciated this opportunity given to me. Back home walking around the streets meant the most impressive thing I’d see would be a decent restaurant or something. Here in Rome, stumbling upon ancient buildings such as the Coliseum and more seem to be casual at this point, and to someone who hasn’t experienced such moments like so, this must sound absurd. In fact, my roommates and I felt obligated that same night after witnessing the Coliseum in person to watch the Gladiator movie right after our tour. To some degree my roommates and I have already set up a solid routine for our days; having the same class schedules makes that much easier. Getting up early practically each weekday, going to classes until midafternoon, which I will touch on as classes develop more in a later blog, going to the gym and then usually cooking a communal dinner, I would say that things are looking pretty bright for my stay here in Rome. Until next time, grazie e ciao!
