Not a single day has passed that hasn’t brought about some sort of adventure, no matter how small or surprising.
I can definitely say that upon arrival in Rome I never expected I’d need to learn how to say “Take me to the nearest emergency room.” Even the basic conversational Italian I feel I’ve somewhat mastered was not too helpful when I was forced to take an impromptu journey to the hospital with a friend who was more than a little reluctant to find out if she needed to get stitches after dropping a glass bottle on her foot. To save you the suspense, she made it out alive; I can hardly say the same for myself, as I made it home at 4AM with an 8AM alarm set to leave for Venice in the morning (And of course I still had yet to pack). But as exhausted as I was for the next 24 hours, it was a memory I never expected to make here, and one that I won’t soon forget.
It was an unusual way to start off that weekend trip, but can I just say…..VENICE. Words can almost not do justice to the love I have for this city. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and one that I was determined to get to while being in Italy. It is pretty easy to travel to just about anywhere within Italy (and Europe for that matter once you’re in a European country), and if anyone has the desire to hit this destination while here I can promise you it is an unforgettable experience. The initial view of the Grand Canal as you’re exiting the train station looks like the backdrop of a movie set, like it isn’t actually real because it’s so amazing.
I’m torn between what I enjoyed the most about Venice: wandering the streets and alleyways getting lost in order to find our way or the gondola ride that culminated our trip. The natural lighting, the children playing in the square and the Venetian taxis passing on the Grand Canal all made for an absolutely idyllic setting.
I’m loving every second more than the next, and can’t wait for all the traveling and adventures still in store!!
