- Besides the usual feeling of doubt, stress, and confusion that being a college student requires I was able to go on another trip over the weekend, and this time to Amsterdam. The three days and nights I spent there were filled with laughs, eating, dancing, and exploring the grey city. Let me put it into context the struggle I had leading up to it that made it even better. The week before, I had lost my phone so for 6 days I had gone without it and felt like a walking ghost. I felt constantly out of the loop and stressed over assignments and class and kept thinking, “How did anyone live like this?” Our society today lives at such a fast and precise speed, and I felt like I was moving through quicksand. Luckily, I set my phone on find my iPhone and put a message on telling whoever found it who to call and where to send it, and Wednesday night I traveled 4 hours total starting at 8 pm to go and get my phone back. I waited thirty minutes outside of a train station for my friends mom to bring me my phone and only had a book to keep me company while I shivered outside hoping that the strange man also waiting wasn’t going to kidnap me. I then proceeded to go home, and the bus that would take me from the city center to the street I live on wasn’t making its rounds anymore so I had to walk another 20 minutes back. I didn’t care though, I finally had my phone and was getting on a flight to Amsterdam to see my friends and go to the Amsterdam music festival in the morning. I don’t think I let go of my phone once during the trip I was so happy to have it back, and also frightened to lose it again. One thing I noticed in Amsterdam was how big the windows are, and found out it’s because it is always so overcast there, so they try to maximize whatever natural light there is coming into the house. The natural architecture was beautiful, and there were many museums, waffle stands, and bikes than I thought possible to fit into the city. During the day, we explored and went on different tours and saw the I Amsterdam sign and took plenty of pictures. At night we got ready and went to the music festival, which is the biggest dance festival in Europe. We were right up by the stage both nights, and danced to all the biggest dj’s in the world like Hardwell and Tiesto. It was so fun, and my legs are still sore from it all.
