This weekend was Surf Camp Australia. I was originally set to go with the University of Sydney’s group, but I chose to change my weekend so I could branch out and meet other people. My friend from Germany, Freddie, happened to be there the same weekend! We immediately started making friends with other surfers. We met a lovely girl from Italy, Shadi, and another from Denmark, Luisa (along with many others). Over the course of three days, we bonded more than most people could bond over an entire semester. We spent all day in the water surfing together and talking about how different or similar our lives are in reference to different cultures. The camp was two hours away from Sydney so we were all out of our comfort zones and ended up branching out even more for that reason, I think. I sincerely believe this one weekend surf camp enhanced my experience on a very high level. I have surfed before so I tried my hardest to be as encouraging as possible to everyone in our group, and a moment I am happy about was when the person in charge of the camp was telling his coworkers how I would get along well with any group I am a part of and they all agreed. Then we even talked about me working at the camp when I come back to Australia! That would be amazing! This weekend was a highlight of my trip.
