In three days I will be traveling to Kathmandu, Nepal. About two weeks ago I was freaking out about my Adventures to Nepal but now that I am three days away I am beyond excited. I will be leaving Chicago on the 24th and will catch a 12 hour flight to Doha then a 10 hour layover where I get to pass some time with a tour of Doha that is offered through the airport, and then finally a 4 hour flight to Nepal. (this entire paragraph is basically one sentence… I apologize)
I am not usually one to worry about flights, since I fly all the time but this will be my first overnight flight, and that scares me a bit. I am also worried about the 10 hour and 45 minute time difference from my family and friends especially since I struggle with the 1 hour time difference for Chicago and Florida. This will be interesting to see how I handle it. I think my biggest concern is that in Nepal the use of the left hand is shown as disrespectful, since the left hand is used only for wiping when going to the bathroom. Me being left handed, I can’t really do anything with my right hand so it will be hard to not hand people things with my left hand and not eating with my left hand, so this worries me about how I can adjust for 20 years of being left handed. I’ve kind of accepted the fact that I will get lost, struggle with learning Tibetan and Nepali, and overall, really just being confused during most of the semester but I knew my trip to Nepal was going to be challenging for me and is one of the reasons why Nepal stuck out to me when choosing a program. I am excited to begin my semester in Nepal and to share my adventures, and struggles in Nepal with you.
