I absolutely cannot believe our field study in Madrid is coming to an end. It feels like we got here yesterday! I have fallen in love with the city, it’s architecture, people, and food. I leave next Friday and I am dreading every minute of it. The weather has warmed up, which makes the heavy walking unbearable. On the bright side, it makes for relaxing days laying in the sun at the park.
Last weekend, we traveled to Candelario, Spain with our entire student group. The bus ride was nearly 3 hours long, and we arrived in this tiny little village high up in the mountains. The town really was tiny, and it seemed like we barely saw anyone else the entire time. We toured the village and walked along the 2,000-year-old cobblestone roads. Apparently a significant historical site as Spain’s major meat producer, we learned how villagers had to build mini barn stall doors in their doorway to keep the animals from roaming into their homes. While there, we met the mayor in a special ceremony, took a hike, saw the snow-capped mountain tops, and watched as performers reenacted the history of the town. On Saturday, we toured a local deserted village with a beautiful castle and wall to guard the city. On our way back, we even stopped to witness Spain’s oldest bull ring. Last weekend was certainly one of the most unique experiences of my life, and I’m so glad I got to share it with our entire student group. I only wish I had more time! Below is a picture of me while in Candelario!
