These last couple weeks have flown by. I’ve really enjoyed my time here in Madrid, and especially enjoyed my experience with my host family. Not only was the family extremely welcoming and acted like a real family to me, but it was also an experience like no other. To live with a group of people who don’t speak English, yet be able to communicate with them (with some amount of effort on my part, to speak Spanish) in their own house is a rare opportunity. My favorite part about home-stay was seeing how they prepared their meals and what exactly they chose to eat at different times of the day. I found some of their food choices different than my own, for example, eggs are only to be eaten during lunch or dinner. This is usually the complete opposite in the United States. Eggs are solely eaten for breakfast- typically- and are known for their benefits as a BREAKFAST.
In my last few weeks here I have really enjoyed my time exploring different areas. Chueca and La Latina are two places where I often spent my time finding restaurants or cafes that cater to vegetarians. Being in a city where the culture and history revolves around tapas and entrees including meat(and a lot of it), I found it to be a bit difficult locating nutritious and satisfying dishes “SIN carne”. One good thing about Madrid is that fish is really common. I do enjoy fish, which is something that really saved me while being here. And tortilla. My new favorite Spanish dish is definitely tortilla. I will miss tortilla when back in the states because I’ve not seen it yet in Florida, New York or Connecticut. ☺
All in all, I am so glad I got to be part of such an amazing trip, and had the chance to meet such interesting and different people. Spain is definitely a place I want to return to in the future. There is so much more to explore!!!!!
Here is a photo of carrot cake that i got every week at my favorite Cafe Mür right near Don Quijote school. It is amazing. I found that cake is super popular in madrid- but Mür definitely served up my favorite BY FAR!.
Also, here is a photo of my (half eaten) spanish tortilla from La Pomarada located very close to Don Quijote, as well.. I really enjoyed tortilla here in spain and couldn’t really choose one location that served the best tortilla seeing as though they were all pretty RICO (so delicious).Ricissimo!!
Adios!!! O HASTA LUEGO, Madrid!
