The countdown to my flight to Buenos Aires has begun. I can’t believe I only have one more week before I hop on a flight to Argentina! It will be my first time going to South America and I couldn’t be more excited to be studying in such a beautiful place; the Paris of South America, Buenos Aires.
In the last two months I’ve been looking at Youtube videos and Blogposts to find out about some of the things I can expect when I arrive. From the culture to shopping, to the arts and sightseeing, I’ve been trying to learn as much about Buenos Aires before I leave. With each discovery I get more and more excited to live and learn there for the next three and a half months. One place that I’m really excited to go to is El Ateneo Bookstore. This bookstore is located in an old theatre. The books fill the places where the seats once were and the stage has been converted into a cafe. How cool is that? I love reading and I can see myself getting lost in this place for hours.
I’m also really excited to see some live performances of tango. Argentina is the birthplace of this sensual ballroom dance. From videos I’ve seen, areas like San Telmo and La Boca are famous for these live tango shows. I’m a big lover of dance and the arts so I think Buenos Aires will be a great place to explore.
I hope that I can discover even more places to enjoy when I get there so I can update this blog with lots of adventures. I hope to take lots and lots of pictures of the beautiful things I see there. I hope to take everyday like a new adventure and learn more about the culture of “los porteƱos”. I want to learn the slang and how to fit in with the locals. I hope I make friends with both the locals and the students in my program. Most of all, I hope that overall this will be an experience where I can grow not only academically, but as a world citizen. I’m so thankful that Rollins has given me this amazing opportunity.
