I’ve been in London a few weeks now and I already feel like I’m at home here. In many ways it hasn’t been hard for me to adjust to living here. I love the city and how there are things going on around you all the time and there are so many places to explore. You could get off at a different tube stop and discover a new and different part of London each time. I love the diversity of the city and its people. It’s a truly international city, and I love living in it. While here, I am doing an internship and taking classes. I love being able to work in the city and working with actual Londoners instead of just sitting in class all day everyday. I feel like I am able to get to know the city better through them. I am interning at a boutique investment banking firm called Hambro Perks. I am specifically helping one of the startups they have invested in, to grow and launch. It’s very exciting work because I basically get to help build a business from the ground up. Building a business is very diverse work and I get pulled in many different directions. My internship definitely breaks the mold of the stereotypical, boring “filing paperwork” type internship that everyone dreads. I’ve gotten to do so many different types of tasks already from marketing research to evaluating value propositions and even filming! That’s right filming! One week I got to travel across London to Liverpool Street (such as cool place to explore) and help film the company’s “Founding Ten” members in a chic little flat that had the best view of Shoreditch. It was so cool (for lack of better terms)! I got to meet the CEOs of other startup companies that Hambro Perks has invested in and helped grow. I also learned a lot about cameras and lighting! Needless to say, I think this internship is going to be pretty amazing just based on what I’ve already done! I also found that Liverpool Street Market has the best Turkish delight!
