Either I am a bad luck charm or Vueling Airlines is too cheap for its own good because this is the second time that my flight has been cancelled coming home. I am going to stick with the latter and cross my fingers for the next time. Anyways, it was all part of the adventure to Málaga and Granada!
Málaga was the perfect little beach town complete with an impressive cathedral, gorgeous views, and tapas for days. When we arrived at our airbnb Thursday we were pleasantly surprised to see that there were other students from around Europe also staying in the flat. I loved hearing their stories and making more traveling comrades. We instantly bonded over our experiences in Spain and the rolls of toilet paper I stole from restaurants to get by for the weekend. All of Friday was spent tanning ( or in my case, roasting) on the beach and enjoying the sunshine of southern Spain. From the top of the castle Gibralfaro you could see the entire city of Málaga.
Saturday was dedicated entirely to Granada, a city an hour and a half away. After hitching a ride there, squeezed in the back of a car way too small for the two grown men that I was traveling with, we finally made it to see the famous Alhambra fortress. My host mom said that not seeing Alhambra is like going to New York and not seeing the Statue of Liberty. Granted she has never been to the United States, but it definitely lived up to its reputation. The architecture, the elaborate gardens, the views were all outstanding.
There were so many interesting shops and restaurants with Moorish influence that Granada almost felt like a miniature Morocco. After a full day of touring, we caught another very cramped car back to Málaga to enjoy the beach one last day before heading back to Oviedo.
It is hard to believe that I have already been in Spain for an entire month! It feels like the time has flown by. I hope the next two months bring just as many adventures as this one.
