Hi everyone!!! I am back!
So last weekend, I decided that it was a good idea to get out of London and go visit a country where I’ve never been before… That’s right, I went to Germany for the weekend. (That is one of the many cool things of coming to London for study abroad, the rest of Europe is so close, you can basically go to a different country every week).
It had been a long time since I last visited a country where I was completely unfamiliar with the culture and the language… I was basically lost. I speak three languages and German ain’t one of them. Fortunately, I had a Dutch friend with me who kinda understood German. We survived the weekend, which is what matters.
The main reason to go to Germany that specific weekend was Oktoberfest! Which is a festival dedicated to the german heritage and … of course.. beer. So a couple of friends and I decided to go to Munich to experiment this cultural demonstration personally. Needless to say, it was really fun and very interesting! Lots of traditional music, lots of traditional food, many many theme park attractions and of course lots of beer.
The entrance is free, everything else you have to pay for, but it is a once in a life time experience. (Although I personally thought it was a little overrated, I won’t be going back anytime soon).
On the other hand, Munich is a very calmed city, with lots of parks and cute little plazas like the one in the picture:
(You know Shrek? yeah, the movie, well, this town looked just like the movie)
I bet many of you are really interested in coming to London, maybe for study abroad or just to visit so I am gonna give you some important tips for when you decide to travel from London to any other part of Europe:
-BRING EUROS… or whatever the local currency is. Believe me, you’ll need it to pay for the taxi or the undergrown when you try to get to your accommodation.
-Find travel buddies! It will be more fun this way and some things will also be cheaper.
-If you’re planning on going to Oktoberfest.. BUY YOUR PLANE TICKETS NOW… do not wait until the week of because they will be TOO EXPENSIVE (learned that one the hard way).
-Take lots of pictures! or keep a diary, whatever works for you… It helps to digest all the cultural experiences you’re having.
-Travel light.. Do not overpack, take as few things as possible, no need to bring 6 changes of clothes as long as you do your homework and make sure you pack what you need for the weather.
Oh well…It was nice to get out of London and have the chance to get to know a little bit of Germany, but I am so happy I am back. I am definitely loving London and every day I get more used to it and I feel more like at home!
Until next week!!!!
