Oh my goodness! Since the last time I posted on here, I got to do one of the COOLEST trips I’ve taken in New Zealand. I got to go to Milford Sound! It’s known as the 8th wonder of the world – that should tell you enough about its beauty. Unfortunately, Milford Sound is in Fiordland National Park – otherwise known as one of the rainiest places in the whole world. On average, it is only sunny 60 out of 365 days a year. Of course, the whole week we were checking the weather forecast to see what type of weather we would have – it said rain, but when we got to Milford Sound – we had clear, blue skies! I was so excited and grateful to be able to see it like this! And we even got the best of both worlds, because the night before, it rained so we were able to see the waterfalls that the park is also famous for in full swing! We took a boat ride out to the Tasman Sea and back, and along the way we got to stand under a waterfall, see the third rarest penguin in the world, see seals, AND dolphins! The guides were shocked that we saw all 3 types of wildlife this place is famous for – that is virtually unheard of! They even told us that we had lucked out with a triple whammy: waterfalls, sun, and wildlife.
When we headed back to the little town we were staying in, Te Anau, we saw a glowworm cave tour that we really wanted to do. We were spontaneous and just went for it. It took us into a cave where we got to see waterfalls and old stalactites – but the coolest part was getting into a little boat in the PITCH BLACK and looking up and seeing these bioluminescent glowworms – they were INSANE. Now it’s time to start studying for exams… I think that’ll be all the big trips I go on – now It’s crunch time!
