The date today is October 26th so I’ve obviously fallen behind on my blogposts. All I can say is my time spent here at QMUL has been a whirlwind of activities, classes, new places, and new people. Freshers week at QMUL is essentially an orientation week for the new freshmen students and I felt very much like I was beginning college all over again. I spent most of my time during Freshers week meeting new people and making new friends. Ironically, most of the new friends I made were American. I think I made friends with mostly Americans because it was comforting to spend time with people from my home country. However, as the semester has progressed I’ve tried to find more British people to spend time with because I feel guilty for spending so much of my time abroad with Americans.
As most of my time during Freshers week was consumed with meeting new friends and hanging out with old friends from Rollins, I was a little disoriented when classes began the following week. On the first day of class I struggled to find my classes and generally felt ill-prepared for my classes. However, I caught on quickly and since then I have a running schedule of work needed to be done week to week. One of the things I enjoy most about classes here are the lectures, which are very different than Rollins classes. I enjoy lectures because the professor is able to speak uninterrupted and present the information very clearly from the beginning of class until the end. I’ve found that I prefer this method over discussion based classes even though I have had seminar discussions here that have proved very rewarding. At the end of my first two weeks here I was less intimidated and more excited about the coming semester.
