These last two weeks have been going by slowly. For one, I haven’t taken any trips on my own because they are all planned for November. Secondly, we have had excursions with our supervisor Ana.
The first excursion we took was during the first weekend of November and we went to Leon! This was one of the top places I was looking forward to seeing in Spain, because of the rich Gothic architecture that it possesses. It was absolutely stunning to see the central cathedral in the middle of Leon, but no one could ever prepare me for how extremely cold it was there! The wind and the cold was the worst I have felt in probably 10 years or so… After we went to the museum called Real Colegiata de San Isidoro, which was one of the first places the parliament was born, almost like a court. Then inside there was a room which was completely painted, including the ceilings, with religious art. I actually studied this site in my art class, and then got a chance to see it in person.
The second excursion we went to was the weekend after and it was to the Sidra Museum and the Mining Museum of Asturias. They were both very fun because of the interactive component. We got to see how Sidra, the signature cider-like drink, of Asturias is made and later processed. Then we made our way to the mining museum, which was a replication of what mines were like during the time that Asturias used it as a main industry.
The days following the excursions, we had mid-term week, and I had to buckle down and study really hard, therefore my blog is not as interesting this time. Here they don’t have assignments like Rollins, we simply get 2 exams and a paper/project and that’s it! I made sure to do good and study hard, all in Spanish, and take my written exams like a champ!
This weekend I will be going to Portugal, and then shortly after we have a long weekend, so I will be visiting Budapest and Vienna for Thanksgiving!
