Ciao Regazzi,
Short update, let me start by giving some context. I didn’t get home last night until just after midnight because I was saying good bye to some of my italian friends that attend Sapienza University. I was then up till 3am studying for my last final exam, went to bed, woke up at 9:30am to resume studying, and then throw some clothes on to grab breakfast at HomeBaked….basically my mind was exhausted, and I was ready for the semester to be over. I get on the tram to travel one stop, it’s about a 3min ride to the next stop. I could’ve walked it which I do sometimes, but I was trying to get to school faster so I could get back to studying. Well because karma was on my side, homeboy here got fined. A whopping 100 euros because I didn’t have a ticket on me.
Now, if you pay within 5 days it’s only 51.50 euros…and if you take into account the amount of times I’ve used public transit without paying (I am sorry Italia, but broke college kid has to save somehow) then 51.50 euros is still cheaper than buying a ticket every time I travelled.
Moral of the story: Some kids get away with it all semester, some kids get fined 3 weeks in…and some get fined on their last day–when they have plenty of other things to worry about.
PS: If this does happen, keep the receipt after you pay the fine!!!!! They will try mailing you stating that you havent paid and have accrued interest on your fine and ask you for 300+ euros, but if you have the receipt you won’t get charged a second time because you can say you already paid.
Marc
