Ciao Regazzi,
Well tonight is officially the end to my last night in Rome (once I go to bed). It’s currently 3:30am and I will be waking up at 6:15am to finish packing some minor things before heading to the airport.
About 17 of us all got dinner together at Maccheroni, which is a wonderful place for good italian food, and then we went to Scholar’s after because its Wednesday which means karaoke! I had a blast tonight with some of my greatest friends before saying some of my hardest goodbye’s. Reflecting on these new friendships, each and everyone of the has taught me so much about who I am as a person, and what my needs are. If I knew who I was going to be friends with at the end of the semester vs the beginning…I would’ve changed who I hung out with entirely during the first few weeks I was here. Yet, that is what always happens…when we start to close in on the end of our journey, we tend to find the greatest of friends both to enjoy all of the minutes we have left and to infinitely question why we never spent time together earlier.
For my last supper I drank 1/2 a liter of red wine coupled with pecorino+honey, prosciutto+mozzarella, and carbonara (as well as some of my friends leftover cacio e pepe). It was an amazing last meal and I will miss the italian food, the italian culture and my study abroad friends so incredibly much. I owe a lot to this entire experience for helping me grow as a person just a little bit more. I’m still me, just a little bit tweaked.
Goodbye Roma,
Marc
PS: not looking forward to reverse culture shock
PPS: pro-tip- don’t become best friends with the first people you meet. Spend the first month hanging out with everyone instead, some of your best friends in August you may not talk to come December, and some of the people you meet in November may be your greatest of friends by the time you leave.
