I’ve been in Aix for about three weeks now, and I’m finally getting accustomed to a schedule. IAU is the name of the school I attend, which is about a twenty-minute walk from where I live. The school is small and has a total of approx. 200 students. Similar to the structure at Rollins, attendance at IAU is mandatory, and each class has a range of about 8-12 students total.

Two weekends ago, our class went to visit Monte Carlo, which is the central quarter of the principality of Monaco. We visited the Casino de Monte-Carlo, which was built in 1863 and later expanded to the designs of the famous architect Charles Garnier (designer of the Paris Opera house).
We then visited the Historic Fragonard Factory in the town of Grasse, which is the world’s capital of perfume. In 1926, entrepreneur Eugène Fuchs opened the perfumery, naming it after the famous painter, Jean-Honoré Fragonard. At the Factory, we were offered a guided tour of the laboratory, learning about the production & packaging of perfume.

Last Friday, IAU departed to Les Orres (the Alps), a village located in the southeast of France. On both Saturday and Sunday, we were able to ski, snowboard, snowshoe, or sled. The mountain is incredibly beautiful, and the resort was entertaining, filled with different boulangerie’s, gift shops, restaurants, and bars.
