This past weekend my dad and stepmom came to visit me in Hong Kong! It was so nice to get to see family, especially after being away for almost a year.
One of the best things about having visitors is the free food 😉 Friday night I met them at a really special restaurant in downtown Hong Kong that was on the top floor of a sky-rise. Every once and a while, my dad likes to treat himself to a really nice meal in a special place. This was one of those times and the food was incredible. Even the bathroom was impressive. I was washing my hands, looking out at this view…
Saturday we started the day off early with a quick breakfast and then headed into town to visit the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. After spending a little time looking around, we caught the ferry to Cheung Chau Island. The island is one of the smaller ones of Hong Kong, but it was still fun to walk around and see the beach and the temples. I tried to imagine living on an island like that, gaining my living off of fishing and living in a little apartment by the water. It is interesting to see this completely different way of living juxtaposed with the bustling life of the inner city of Hong Kong. While it is all considered the same city, it almost seems like a different world.
Sunday was another early day (one of the down sides of visiting parents is they are early risers), but it was worth it to get to see the Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden before it got too hot in the afternoon. The garden is a classical Chinese garden with too many bonsai trees to count, ponds, waterfalls, and anything else that you can imagine would create a beautiful scene. It was one of the most well-kept and interesting gardens that I had ever seen.
That night, we met at their hotel for a seafood buffet before they packed up and moved on to go visit my stepmom’s family in mainland China. It was a short but sweet visit and I much needed break. More adventures to come.. Next up: Shanghai!
