I am currently on Easter Break! For the first half of the break some friends and I travelled to Scotland. The best part of the holiday was the day we took a bus ride through the Highlands to Loch Ness. Scotland is such a beautiful country full of glens (valleys), lochs (lakes), and bens (mountains). The views in the Highlands are spectacular and breathtaking. The snow capped mountain peaks and the flowing rivers make the area very picturesque.
Along the way to Loch Ness we passed historical landmarks, movie locations, and learned about Scottish history. We drove passed the locations where Braveheart, Game of Thrones, Outlander, and Skyfall were all filmed. I was especially excited to go to the Highlands because that is the location for one of my favorite tv shows, Outlander.
It was a six hour bus journey to get to Loch Ness so we definitely learned a lot of fun facts about the lake! We found out that Loch Ness is deeper than the North Sea and has enough water to fill all of the lakes in England twice! Once at Loch Ness, we took a boat ride out into the center of the enormous lake. I was amazed at the sheer size of the lake; it is about 23 miles long and 1 mile wide. Unfortunately, we didn’t see the Loch Ness monster, but who knows what could be hiding under the dark depths of Loch Ness.
