Nugget Point (Ahuriri Flat), Purakanui (Tarara Falls), Cannibal Beach
Today me and some buds went for a journey across the Catlins. Our mission was to go to the Cathedral Caves which is one of the must see spots in NZ. On our way we passed a sign for nugget point and someone recalled it looking really cool so we decided to stop by. After a 20 minute driving detour and a 15 minute hike we arrived at one of the most stunning views of my life. Finally we reach a light house which is looking out over multiple pointed boulders sticking out from the ocean with waves crashing all around them. We head back to the car and hit the road again. After about another 40 minutes of driving we reach a bridge that was out and we took a 45 minute detour around the river. On the detour we pass a sign for a waterfall so we decide why not and park the car and hike 20 minutes to the Tarara Falls where we take some photos and climb to the top of them. We head back to the car and keep driving. Now we reach the Cathedral Caves and come to the understanding that it was closed, high tide had kicked in and the caves are now underwater and inaccessible.. After a little loathing we get lunch and head home. On the way home we passed a sign for cannibal beach and thought, why not. So we head over and check it out. We ended up watching the sun set on the beach with about 20 seals fighting over each other on what we later found out was mating season
