Andrew came to visit! After not seeing my boyfriend for a little over 4 months, I met him in Shanghai. It was like a movie scene: me, waiting at the airport, spotting him in the crowd and running over to give him a hug. Unlike the movies, I was sweating like a pig, panicky and batting away Chinese ladies trying to convince me to buy a SIM card… the important thing is that we were finally together!
Since Andrew had previously studied abroad in Shanghai, I let him be in charge of showing me around the city. We walked all over the place. From the Bund, the iconic waterfront area in central Shanghai, to M50, the contemporary art district, to the French concession, he made sure to show me all of the cool spots that he had explored during his time in China. We even made a pit-stop at his old university. It was neat to get to see Shanghai through his experiences and create a few of our own.
After a few days in Shanghai, Andrew followed me over to Hong Kong to finish out the week. Since he had also spent some time in Hong Kong, we skipped the touristy things and opted for a more relaxed style. Since Saturday was a pretty rainy day, I took him to one of my favorite bookshops. After grabbing a few books, we headed back to our place and spent the day in reading and listening to the rain. That night, we met up with one of his relatives in Hong Kong who took us out to a few of the bars in Central.
It was sad to send him off to the airport this morning, but knowing that I would be back in just a few more weeks made it not as bad. Just a few more days in Hong Kong then I am off again to the next place!
