The highlight of these two weeks has been my trip to Queenstown, followed by a ferry tour around a beautiful place on the west coast called Milford Sound. A ‘sound’ is a narrow sea or ocean channel between two bodies of land. First we spent a night out at the bars in Queenstown trying to find the cheapest deals among all the overpriced tourist traps. We celebrated all night for a friends 21st birthday. The next day we woke up with a pounding headache and stumbled over to the famous Fergburger for breakfast. Then we left to start our drive to the campsite near the ferry launch dock where we cooked a nice pasta dinner on our camping burner. In the morning, we woke up and drove the short drive to the ferry, watching the beautiful sunrise along the way. On our tour, we saw beautiful mountains that rose high out of the water and as the sun climbed above them in the morning sky. There are a few breathtaking waterfalls that we stopped the boat at to observe and take pictures. My friends and I were sitting on the very front of the boat when the captain pointed the nose right under the waterfall allowing us to get quite wet. In the middle of the sound, we stopped and saw well over 100 dolphins swimming around our ferry. As the captain started to move forward again the dolphins start to follow us and surf our wake while we took videos.
