A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to spend a weekend with my classmates in Candelario, a small village situated in the mountains of Salamanca. Without a doubt it was one of my favorite weekends of the trip because I was able to see a different, more relaxed side of Spain. While I have been fortunate enough to travel to several cities in Spain during my time abroad, I have always spent these weekends jam packed with travel and activities, rushing to get in as much as possible in order to take full advantage of my limited time in the area. In Candelario, I was able to relax, spend quality time with my roommates, and enjoy the cool mountain air–a welcome change to the unbearable heat in Madrid. As a group, we walked the town, learned about it’s history, and even got to see an uninhabited part of Castile and León that had some truly stunning views. My favorite part of the trip was the hike on Sunday morning to an icy stream with a waterfall. It was so nice to walk with friends, chat, and be in the moment. Candelario and the surrounding parts of Castile and León were beautiful and I probably never would have thought to plan such a trip myself.
