As one of our mandatory excursion activities, our program went to a medieval town outside of Madrid called Segovia. Segovia is located in the province of Castilla and Léon and is a short hour drive from the city of Madrid. When we first arrived there, we walked the various paths in the woods that surrounded the famous castle (as shown in the picture below). Afterward, we had a big lunch that included Segovia’s famous cochonillo, or little pig. To my surprise, it was tender and full of lots of juicy flavors, and we also enjoyed other Spanish delicacies that accompanied the main center of the meal. After the lunch, we were given a tour of the Alcazar of Segovia, the royal palace that was built dated back to the 10th century. The castle reflects both a gothic and romanesque architecture. The tour ended at the top of the palace, where we were pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful view that overlooked the entire town of Segovia. Our day ended by walking around the stone streets of Segovia. We saw both the Aqueduct and the ancient Walls of Segovia. Overall, the trip was both a great learning experience and fun excursion with the entire program.
