I’m on my way to Iceland and I couldn’t be more excited. There is so much unknown to me that lies ahead. I have no idea what to expect or what I even expect. I know that whatever is ahead will be incredible. I know I am going to learn so much about climate change in such a relevant way. I know I am going to learn so much about potential careers as I am learning more about climate change. I know I am going to learn an about renewable energy and its implementation and benefits. It is such a pertinent topic to my major and interest within environmental studies. Iceland is also a climate and full of biomes I could never fully learn about and fully understand in the classroom in Florida. I am so excited for an experiential learning experience and to be doing much more work in the field. Beyond the classroom I know there is going to be so much growth, but I have no idea what it will be. I look forward to seeing all parts of Iceland, not just Reykevic and the cities we will visit, but also the fjords, plateaus, glaciers and so much more. I cannot wait to meet the people of Iceland and learn more about them and their culture. I know very little about Icelanders and their culture and have no expectations, so I am excited to just learn and meet them and interact with them. I am also incredibly excited to travel to Greenland at the beginning of September. I am so excited to be immersed in something that I have no idea what to expect. I have been following Iceland photography accounts on Instagram and I have to remind myself that these incredible images are of places I may be going. I am nervous I may be amplifying the amount of growth and impact the abroad will have on me, but I cannot help but anticipate the maximum good, especially for an adventure like this!! I am beyond excited for this semester and cannot wait for all the greatness to unfold (I’m even excited for the challenges to come!).
