I can’t believe an entire month has passed since I’ve been in Germany. I won’t lie, the first week and a half of school was extremely hard and I was even almost regretting my decision to do a study abroad program. It was just such a drastic change and I had trouble finding a constant friend group and was very homesick. It wasn’t something I expected since it was so easy to make friends at Rollins and it was a lot easier to integrate myself. However, thankfully I found myself a little group of friends and study groups which then made everything easier. On top of that, I’ve visited my cousin who lives in Hamburg a few times and have explored that city quite a bit. We went to the zoo with her three-year-old daughter, visited the monuments and even went to the theater. Her husband also lived in Bremen for a few years and gave me a list of places I must visit so there’s never a dull moment.
This past weekend, I went to Munich for Oktoberfest! Two of my best friends from high school, Thomas and Silvan, who live in Austria and Switzerland came with me as well to experience that whole other side. When we planned to go to Munich, we realized that you need to book the reservations for a table a year in advance which is crazy. However, beyond all odds Thomas met people on his way to Munich who had an extra three tickets and just gave them to him. I never expected that we would ever have so much luck and meet such generous people. We ended up staying at that table for four hours of just singing, drinking beer and eating Bavarian food. Will not lie it was one of the best days of my life, I would do it every year if I could.
One thing that I am experiencing here that I have never seen before, is fall. The leaves are changing color, the cold is picking up and the leaves are falling. Every country I have lived in has never had a proper fall and I can say that I’m excited to see how it looks in two weeks or so and you will definitely have a photo in the next blog! Till next time.
