Macau is a ferry ride away from Hong Kong. It only takes an hour to get there! Macau was a Portuguese colony up to 1999. The city’s vegetation was a little destroyed when we got there. Unfortunately they recently had a typhoon. Many trees were dry and ripped off the ground. Macau is known for it’s massive Casinos and hotels. It is referred to as “Las Vegas of Asia”. They have a replica of the Eiffel Tower as well as canals that resemble Venice. The hotels are beautifully illuminated and the buildings have amazing details. Inside the buildings they have beautiful paintings which makes the interior look like a palace. We went to the casino but many of our friends were under 21 so they were not able to get in. I walked around the casino for five minutes and then left with my friends. We went around the city and saw historical fortresses from the Portuguese colonisers. The architecture of the city resembles that of Portugal. We went to a Portuguese restaurant and the food was delicious. It was the first time I tried raw egg.
The tallest building is called the Macau Tower. My friend and I got to the top and had a beautiful view of the city. We did a skywalk for the first time. It was a scary and thrilling experience. We were strapped onto two ropes, and walked outside the building which was 233 meters high. Thank God my parents were not there because they would of had a heart attack! At night we went to a club named Pacha with many of our friends from Hong Kong. Most of them are European. Some of them are from France, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. The last day before departing we relaxed in the hotel pool with friends. It was a beautiful day and it was nice to be in the pool after so much adventure. We took the ferry back to Hong Kong at around 9pm. I fell asleep as soon as I got back to the university. It was a fun weekend trip full of interesting things. I am considering going a second time 🙂
