After spending 50 days here, we have hit the half way marker. I can say that I’ve definitely gotten a full view of Rome since I’ve spent a lot of my time here. I already know when I get back to the United States, I’m going to miss having access to fresh and cheap pasta and meats. It is crazy how little I have to spend here in order to make a great meal. Some different from the US I’ve noticed, is one they do not use measuring cups here. They cook to taste. So I have had to rely a lot on tasting my food instead of following directions. I think it’s a greater way to cook in all honesty because it’s really bettered my cooking. Which is something I’ve always wanted to work on. Another thing that’s different is that they don’t use things like baking powder or baking soda in their desserts. Which to Americans is absurd which you need those in order to make a soft and fluffy cookie or cake. I have noticed that cookies tend to be more dense because they put yeast in cookies. They have so many different types of yeast here, so it makes it even more difficult to make a simple chocolate chip cookie. But nonetheless we manage.
Traveling wise, I will be going Paris and Vienna in the next couples weeks and I’m very excited about it. These are two places I’ve always wanted to go. I’ll be going for a total of a week.
School has been school, if that makes any sense. Just because it’s in Italy does not make it a piece of cake. I’ve really enjoyed my one class Money and Banking, the professor worked for Disney, prior to teaching, and it is so interesting to learn from him. My Italian is slowing getting better but it is hard to shake the Spanish I already studied. Overall, it’s been a great experience. I’m currently writing this post as my parents and my little brother arrived to Rome earlier today. Where we are going to do a little exploring of Italy. This is my parents and brothers first time in italy and my mom and brothers first time ever on Europe. This is going to be an exciting trip and I cannot wait to make these memories with them.
