After being here for 50 days I do not really have many complaints about Rome. Sure the dog that barks every morning starting at seven in the morning till noon or the lady above is who seems love practicing her tap dancing early in the morning can get annoying, but it is worth it. Luckily being a pretty heavy sleep makes this easy to deal with.
The best part of Rome is all the food that never seems to disappoint. Sometimes the quick eat places always have surprisingly good food for a very low price. My personal favorites are supplis. They are deep fried rice and marinara balls with mozzarella in them. The description doesn’t sound appetizing, but they are always a quick grab and always taste great. Another good/bad thing about Rome is the pizza. Everywhere claims to have the best pizza, so I have to try them to see if they really are. Sometimes you find your group project members all getting pizza instead of actually working on the project, but again, it’s always worth it. My favorite pizza restaurant is Dar Poeta in Trastevere. It’s a little hidden and crowded, but the service is always great and the food is fresh. Gelato is a must at any hour of the day. My favorite shop is called Frigidarium, but mostly because they will dip it in chocolate for you. Like Pizzerias, Gelaterias are at every corner. It’s best to make sure you’re eating real authentic gelato based on how is displayed. If it’s in a metal tin and covered, that means it’s made fresh.
If you ever go to Florence, you must eat at All’Antico Vinaio. This place is so popular that on both sides of the street are the same shop. They have such high ratings and demand, they need two stores across the street from each other, and there is always a line. Each sandwich is made with fresh ingredients and only costs about five euro. If there is one thing I learned from traveling, it’s that if there is a line for somewhere, it’s a big deal. So besides a stomping neighbor and barking dogs, Rome and Italy itself is perfect. If you’re a foodie, definitely visit Italy.
