Well, here we are. Today was the day of my last, and only, final exam. Classes ended November 3rd, so the rest of the month was our exam period. Some people had an exam for every class and finished after a week, others (like me) barely had to be here at all during this month. I submitted my final essays for my classes without an exam, and got to relax for about two weeks before I had to even think about studying. Not sure why, but the fact that I was so relaxed during those two weeks kind of made it feel like time was stood still. Because of that, it wasn’t until today, as I messaged my parents to tell them I was finished with the semester, did it dawn on me that in one week’s time, my study abroad will be over. Don’t get me wrong, my friends started asking me not to leave about a month ago, but always as a joke. I guess I forgot that I did, actually, have to go.
This semester really has flown by. It helps that a large portion of it has felt almost like a vacation. I never thought I’d be spending 6 months living in Australia, but the time here has not felt like 6 months. I’ve travelled all up and down the East Coast, spent a week living out of a car, visited Tasmania, and been Scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. I’ve heard about bands I’d never have even imagined and listen to them regularly, and met people who have lived entirely different lives to me. I’ve enjoyed every second of it so far, and this last week is going to be rough as I pack up and get ready to go. It’ll be sad to go, but I’m sure I’ll return at some point, now that I have something to come back to.
