Hello,
The last month in London was intense. Even though I still have three more weeks here, I am finally done with the schoolwork! The UK educational system is rigorous to say the least, but I’ve survived. The last two weeks I did the amount of work I normally would have done in an entire semester. I will be glad to return back to the States and the very familiar educational system. I did manage to learn a bit of French, but we’ll see how long that lasts!
I am experiencing my first true winter. Living most of my life in Orlando, I’ve experienced a couple weeks of “winter” back home, but not to the level of London. However, even London is mild compared to the rest of the UK because of the amount of people and heat generated by the city. Nonetheless, last week we had a snow day. Londoners woke up to maybe an inch or two of snow and it was the first time I’d experienced a snow day. It was gone by the end of the day, but it was still a beautiful way to wake up in the morning. Of course, my heater broke or hadn’t been working the entire time so I really experienced the below freezing weather. The only place the heater works is in the closet and I’ve been tempted to hide out in my wardrobe on cold nights. I think I can say I’m very accomplished at using my own body heat to keep myself warm, with the help of several blankets of course.
The only time I’ve been angry because of the weather happened earlier this week. I’ve had a cold for a couple days and was finally feeling better. So, I decided to go food shopping because I’ve procrastinated it long enough and I had not food. On the way there, it decided to start raining, but I had my very handy umbrella. It worked for five minutes (I was only halfway to my destination) and then the wind broke it. Like it snapped in two. I was just in shock and continued to Asda, the grocery store, in windy, cold 2C degree weather (around 36F degrees). I didn’t notice I had put my phone in my jacket pocket and not my purse, because when I went to use my phone to see the list of food I wanted, it wouldn’t work. Anyways, so that’s the story of the only time the weather was unpleasant, at least to me. I’ve really enjoyed the cold weather so far.
P.S.
I think I just passed the first step of becoming British by dedicating two paragraphs to just talking about the weather!
