Hello! Today is my second day back in the United States and it’s a bit of an adjustment. The first night I slept in my bed I woke up in a bit of a panic because I did not know where I was at first. I’ve been having asleep at 9pm and waking up at 7 am, which is not a bad sleep schedule. I keep forgetting that I have a dishwasher so I do not have to wash things by hand anymore (praise technology). Driving for the first time in months in was such a great feeling. Public transportation was not my favorite thing in Rome to deal with, so having the ability to go anywhere quickly feels very freeing.
Overall, I learned a lot my second time abroad, but not just academically. I have learned more about myself and what I truly want in this world. Especially since being abroad gave me a lot of time to think. It also made me realize that life is too short and there is way too much to see, so be unhappy in this world. And we are giving the opportunity to see these things that create so much happiness. We have the ability to change what makes us unless and start new, so why waste another moment.
I also realized that you may not be in a place where you want, but you have to make the best of it. There were times where I was very ready to leave Rome and just go home, but instead of sitting in my time wasting time, I hungout with friends, made new friends, found new bars, tried new foods. There is always something to do to add a bit of happiness when life does not seem so great, so Rome taught me that very well.
It was a great experience but I am very happy to be back in the United States and adjusting back to my normal lifestyle. But I am glad for all the friends and memories I made during my time abroad and all that it taught me.
