The attached picture is from Retiro Park, which is located in the heat of the city. The park used to belong to the Royal family and was used for naval purposes and for the extravagant shows and theaters near the lake. Due to this reason, the park has various monuments, gardens and palaces such as the Crystal Palace, Velazquez Palace, the Rosaleda Rose Garden… The monuments and the gardens were mostly made for the royal family members. However now Retiro park is open to public and is a great location to spend time on the weekends or even to go visit after school. My friends and I visited the park after our classes and encountered many other students walking around the park. First activity we did was to go rent a boat for forty five minutes on the big clear lake. From the lake we could see the the monument of Alfonso XII of Spain which is made out of marble and bronze. The equestrian statue is surrounded by four stone lions and four mermaids. It is possible to take great, close-up pictures from the boat. After our boat ride we went to the Crystal Palace and ended our tour by getting some delicious ice cream from the cafe right near the lake and enjoyed the amazing view.
