About a week ago, Michael and Savannah planned a cultural activity to the incredible Museo Reina Sofia. Unfortunately, I skipped it. So today I went back on my own to wander around and see all the art. I was mostly motivated to go by the opportunity to see “Guernica,” Pablo Picasso’s most famous painting, and I wasn’t disappointed. I had seen pictures of it many times before, but I was caught off guard by how large it is in real life. The damn thing is practically an entire wall. I spent lots of time contemplating the Salvador Dali paintings as well. There’s something eerie, yet subtly familiar about them that makes it hard to look away. It reminded me of how people described the experience of being on dmt. So… was Dali a druggy? Come to think of it, the whole cubism section could easily have been drug-inspired as well.
I spent about two and half hours at the museum in total, and I’m thinking of going back again during this trip. I’m also glad I went alone. Not that everyone else isn’t great, but it made my experience more reflective and personal. Moral of the trip? Don’t do drugs. Unless you want to be the next Pablo Picasso.
