My spring break was one that I will never forget. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to go to Fiji and specially this young. My group of friends and I decided to look at Fiji, Bali, and Cook Islands. They each had their own pros and cons but the deciding factor for Fiji was that the tickets were cheap, there was both activities and rest so all eight of us could choose to do what we wanted. We looked at the Mamanuca Islands and found Awesome Adventures Fiji travel agency which we used to program our nights.
We went to Mantaray Island, Beachcomber, and South Sea Island. These hotels were more like hostels because we paid for the “dorm” which could fit 20 people. We all had our own bed and all meals payed for. All of them were so different from one another but the quality of all the hotels was higher than their price. My favorite hotel was Mantaray because the atmosphere was great. There was always something to do and the staff would be actively involved in anything we wanted to do. I got to go snorkeling three times and for the first time I saw colorful coral. I have been in the Caribbean and snorkeled there but all I could see were yellow fish and bland color corals. This was different. There was neon green coral, all different colors of fish, different shapes of coral, blue starfish and so much more. I was in awe every time I stepped into the water.
Beachcomber had more adventure activities such as parasailing and fish feeding. For fish feeding, we would go on a boat to a coral in the middle of the ocean and jump in with our snorkels and bread. There were more than 500 fish surrounding us all and eating out of my hand. We also go lucky at beachcomber because something happened the dorm we had booked so instead, we got upgraded to a villa. The villa had its own personal bathroom and fridge. It was a cute little cabin were all eight of us were able to relax and have privacy.
Lastly, South Sea Island was the last island I visited. This time I was just with three of my friends because the other four had booked their flight earlier. This island is the smallest of the Mamanuca Islands and standing in the middle of the island I could see the ocean in every corner. The first night, there were only three other visitors so it was a very calm night. The staff was very nice and we played games with all of us. We had a candle lit dinner outside with the ocean breeze. In this island we went paddle boarding, and in a submarine. I also got braids and looked like an islander by the time it was time to leave the island.
Leaving Fiji was very sad. I feel like I didn’t have enough time to rest and enjoy the beach. I know I’ll have to come back one day. Up next I have four essays, one for each class, each a min of 20% of my grade. Now that I’ve relaxed and experienced a new culture, it is time to get back to work.
