Hello there! I have been in Australia studying at the University of Newcastle for quite awhile now. However, I just recently had a break through when I came back from holiday (yes, being around so many internationals and Aussies has me saying ‘holiday’ rather than ‘vacation’..). Anyways, the potential studying abroad has is quite insane. As I originally applied for a shared dorm with a meal plan, I now actually share a two floor flat with 17 people with a fully equipped kitchen bringing us all together. This set up has been great as it made the transition incredibly smooth. Being new to a foreign place, I didn’t have to seek out people or events- I was constantly surrounded and welcomed by people in the flat or my college (International House). Living in International House I have also gained so much more perspective and insight than I would have living anywhere else. For example, I live with both girls and boys from Scotland, Sweden, France, Spain, Australia, and the States. I have learned how to live and appreciate diversity and the challenges and celebrations different cultures encompass. Over holiday I visited Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. Again- who would of thought! The potential I tell you.. Anyways, next blogs I will focus more on my classes and then follow up with having to say goodbye… wish me luck!
